Cregneash Village<\/strong><\/h2>

Tucked into the hills above Port St Mary, Cregneash is a living crofting village preserved as it would have looked in the early 20th century. Traditional thatched cottages, Loaghtan sheep grazing the lanes, and craft demonstrations make it feel like stepping back in time \u2014 yet it’s often overlooked in favour of the island’s larger sites. Niarbyl<\/strong><\/h2>

Niarbyl, on the west coast, is a pebble beach beneath dramatic cliffs where a rock formation is said to mark the boundary between two of the world’s oldest continental plates. On a clear day you can see across to Ireland and Scotland. It’s a quiet spot, popular with photographers at sunset but rarely crowded.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Chasms<\/strong><\/h2>

Near the southern tip of the island, the Chasms are a series of deep fissures in the cliffs, formed by centuries of erosion. A coastal path winds past them with views out to the Calf of Man \u2014 a rewarding walk for anyone who enjoys dramatic, slightly wild scenery.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Le son et le veau de l'homme<\/strong><\/h2>

At the island’s southernmost point, the Sound looks out over a fast-moving tidal strait to the Calf of Man, a small uninhabited islet that’s now a bird and wildlife sanctuary. Grey seals are frequently spotted from the shore, and the visitor centre caf\u00e9 has one of the best views on the island. The Ayres<\/strong><\/h2>

At the opposite end of the island, the Ayres National Nature Reserve is a stretch of dune and heathland coastline that feels a world away from Douglas’s Victorian promenade. It’s a haven for rare plants and nesting birds, and one of the few places on the island where you can walk for miles without meeting another person. Above Peel, a short walk up Peel Hill leads to Corrin’s Tower, a striking 19th-century folly with panoramic views over the town, harbour and castle. It’s a good option for visitors who want a rewarding view without a long hike.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Milntown Gardens<\/strong><\/h2>

Just outside Ramsey, the gardens at Milntown combine formal planting, woodland walks and a historic house, and are far quieter than the island’s better-known attractions \u2014 a pleasant stop for anyone who enjoys gardens or afternoon tea in a genuinely historic setting.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Why These Places Are Worth the Detour<\/strong><\/h2>

Many of these spots are a short drive from the island’s main towns but see a fraction of the visitors.
