things to do in the Isle of Man?

There isn’t one single way to experience the island.

Some of the highlights include:

Explore Castletown

Castletown was once the island’s capital and remains one of its most historic towns.

Its centrepiece is Castle Rushen, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the British Isles.

The harbour, old streets and surrounding coastline also make Castletown worth allowing some time to explore rather than simply passing through.

Travel on the heritage railways

The Isle of Man’s railways are attractions in their own right.

The Isle of Man Steam Railway travels south from Douglas, while the Manx Electric Railway heads north towards Laxey and Ramsey.

From Laxey, the Snaefell Mountain Railway climbs towards the summit of Snaefell.

They aren’t simply transport from A to B — travelling on them is part of the experience.

Drive the famous TT Course

Even outside the TT races, the 37.73-mile Mountain Course is one of the island’s most recognisable attractions.

The route passes through towns, villages, countryside and across the mountain section before returning to Douglas.

Following the course with someone who knows its history gives a very different perspective from simply driving the road yourself.

Discover the south

The south of the island combines heritage with some of its most attractive coastal scenery.

Castletown, Port Erin, Cregneash and the Sound can comfortably form a full day’s exploring.

On a clear day, the views from the southern coastline are superb.

Explore the north

The north feels noticeably different.

Ramsey provides the main town, while the surrounding landscape becomes increasingly open towards the Point of Ayre.

It is an area visitors sometimes miss when planning their first trip, but it provides another side to the island.

 <div class="elementor-element elementor-element-7ce81fe e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent"
