The Isle of Man Steam Railway
The Isle of Man Steam Railway dates back to 1873 making it one of the oldest surviving steam railways in the world. It offers a captivating journey through beautiful Manx countryside, running from Douglas to Port Erin in the South of the Island.
The meticulously preserved steam locomotives provide an authentic and atmospheric taste of Victorian transportation. Enjoy the sound of the steam whistle, clack of wheels on the track and smell of the steam engine, all which add to the nostalgia.
The Manx Electric Railway
The Manx Electric Railway has been in operation since 1893 and runs along the Eastern coast of the Isle of Man, making these historic electric trams a must see attraction.
These marvels are the oldest continuously operating tramway system in the world and offer a unique view of some of the island’s stunning countryside and coastline en route to Ramsey in the North of the Island. Choose from open-air carriages to enjoy the fresh sea breeze and take unobstructed photographs, or stay cosy inside for a glimpse of the past.
The Snaefell Mountain Railway
The Snaefell Mountain Railway opened in 1895 and is one of the most unique and scenic railways on the Isle of Man, offering a thrilling way to reach the island’s highest peak, Snaefell, from Laxey on the East coast.
The short 5 mile journey passes through a stunning mix of landscapes, and climbs steadily to the top of Snaefell which on clear days offers a dramatic panoramic view of the ‘Seven Kingdoms’ – the Island itself, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, The Sea below and The Heavens above.
With both public transport and heritage passes included, be sure to include in your visit some of the island’s iconic heritage sites such as the Great Laxey Wheel, Castle Rushen, Peel Castle, Cregneash, and the Manx Museum.
